The Boat

Refining a Michelin-starred restaurant to reflect chef Liam Dillon’s values of natural, local and refined.

We were approached by Michelin-starred chef Liam Dillon to redesign The Boat Restaurant in Lichfield, bringing the interiors more in keeping with the values and tone of the restaurant.

As part of the brief, we fully evaluated the customer journey and introduced a new lounge and bar area where guests can enjoy welcome drinks and nibbles before moving into the restaurant for the main dining experience. We also elevated the kitchen table areas positioned directly in front of the open kitchen pass, creating a more memorable and immersive experience, and introduced a private dining area for guests to hire for special occasions, complete with its own lounge space. For larger groups, there is also an additional private dining area positioned beside a large kitchen window, centred around a showstopping bespoke table made locally in Yoxall.

A key part of The Boat’s ethos is its on-site micro-farm, home to live animals and a working kitchen garden where ingredients are grown for use in the dishes served at the restaurant. Throughout the interior, we referenced this connection to nature through the use of natural materials, pressed flowers and herbs, and terrariums incorporated into the table styling.

The material palette is refined and premium, combining rich walnut, warm whites and textured wallpapers with fluted marble wall tiles and high-quality upholstery. The result is an elegant, considered interior that creates an exceptional experience to complement the quality and creativity of the food.

An absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. I came with a vision and they took it to another level. The first design they showed me turned out to be the final design as it was so amazing! Kayleigh and Matt were fantastic throughout going above and beyond to achieve our opening date. Highly recommended. You get what you pay for!! Thank you guys
